Funny Video!

Just bought Eee-PC recently!!!

This is the "latest" ultra-portable notebook from Asus, presenting to you the Eee-Pc!!! The above photo is my Eee-Pc sitting on top of the macbook to compare the size and you can see it's as small as a standard hard cover size. At 0.92kg, it's lighter then most conventional notebook and it's packing Linux Operating System instead of of the resource hog Window which is excellent!.

I had tested most of the functions such as surfing the internet (firefox), Email (Mozilla Thunderbird), MSN/Yahoo/Google/Skype, and their open source (free) spreadsheet/word processor/presentation software without any problems!

The downside is the following,

1. Battery indicator is not accurate (Which might be able to patch in the future...I dunno)
2. The voice command activation is not responding accurately
3. Lack of a large storage space (Now I got 8GB SSD instead) which I need desperately for downloads.
4. Installation of new software (not included as standard softwares) is a pain for those used to window.
   
5. Speaker not loud enough even with ear phones.
6. Small keyboard need some time to get use to.
   

The good features of this Eee-Pc is the following.

1. Feather Light weight (0.92Kg)
   
2. Small and portable!
3. Fast boot up time!
4. Smooth Running of all Pre-installed softwares!
5. Great graphical User Interface which is extremely user friendly.
6. Similar to Mac, the power plug is uniquely designed to suit international market.
   
7. Built In Webcam & microphone for skype video conferencing.
   
8. The super cheap price tag!!!!
   

This ultra-portable may not be the most powerful system in the market right now and not the most rich featured ones but the price tag is the killer for me. In the IT fair you can get this Eee-Pc (dunno which model) at about $300++, I got mine 8GB SSD model at SGD$698 at Sim Lim Square 1 week before IT Fair!!! I almost faint when I heard someone else got it half the price! Sucks to be so "kiasu" (scare to lose) and bought it too early.

How To Format External Harddiks >120GB using Mac's Disk Utility to be used in Both Windows and Mac.

I had recently purchased a 120 GB Maxtor One Touch 4 Mini and the software that comes with is NOT able to format it to share usage with both Mac and Windows. I had search high and low for a solution for this is a serious issue as FAT32 format from windows doesn't allow me to format any external drive more then 32GB.

So, after a bit of searching...I found a simple solution!!

Use Mac's Disk Utility and format (Erase) the external drive using the "MS DOS File System" and it will be able to read/write on both Window and Mac!!

If external drive is less then 32GB (e.g. thumb drive) it will format as FAT16 and if more then 32GB (Usually is) it will format automatically to FAT32 with no apparent limit to hard disk size. I tried it on my 120GB Maxtor One Touch 4 Mini and now it can easily use on both Mac, Windows and Linux.

Windows with so many "slaves" to update their SP1,2,3 did not patch this "flaw" of inability to format hard disk above 32 GB in FAT 32 to cross platform to Mac seems to be a conspiracy to monopolize the OS market.

Now I can share files from Mac to Window and vice versa! Try it and tell me if it works! Of course back up your files first.
